Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25, 1994, is an American retired gymnast who was an artistic. She was also twice Olympian. She was captain of the 2012 "Fierce Five" and 2016 "Final Five" U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams. Both won their respective teams competitions.At the 2012 Olympics in London she was awarded gold medals in both floor and team competitions and also the bronze medal for the balance beam, making her the most decorated American gymnast of the Games. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she was awarded a gold medal in the team competition which made her and her teammate Gabby Douglas the sole Americans with back-to-back team gold medals. Raisman also took home silver medals for individual all-around and for floor exercise. She is the third-highest decorated American gymnast in Olympic history, behind Shannon Miller and Simone Biles who have won six Olympic medals.Raisman was also a member of the gold-winning American teams at the 2011 and 2015 World Championships, and the bronze medalist of the world on floor exercise in 2011. She is also a two-time national champion on floor exercise (2012 and 2015) and the 2012 national champion on the balance beam, and five times medalist in the all-around competition at the national championships (silver in 2016, bronze in 2012 and 2011, as well as in 2015, bronze in 2010, 2011, and). In 2013, she was admitted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was born on 25 May 1994 in Needham, Massachusetts to Lynn Faber (nee Faber), who was a former high school gymnast, and Rick Raisman. She has three younger siblings: Brett, Chloe, and Madison. Raisman is Jewish and has said, "I take a lot of satisfaction in the fact that I can not only represent the U.S.A, but also the Jewish community everywhere. Raisman began gymnastics at age 18 months old. She attributes her initial interest in gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", a U.S. women's gymnastics team who won a gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing until the level of 8. After that, she joined Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club with coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman graduated from Needham High School in 2012 after finishing her senior year through online classes while training for the Olympics.
